Godzilla Star Kaylee Hottle Dies Aged 18 Following Car Crash
The horror and science fiction community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of actress Kaylee Hottle, who has tragically died following a car accident in Maryland. She was just 18 years old.
According to authorities, the crash occurred during the early hours of Tuesday morning in Ijamsville, Maryland, with deputies responding to the scene at around 2:50am local time. Police believe excessive speed was a contributing factor in the single-vehicle collision. A 19-year-old driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while another passenger declined medical treatment. Hottle was transported to hospital, but sadly died after her heart reportedly stopped on the way.
The devastating news was confirmed by her father, Joshua Hottle, who shared an emotional video statement on Facebook using American Sign Language (ASL). Speaking to family, friends and supporters, he explained that he had travelled from Texas to Maryland after learning of the crash, before receiving the heartbreaking news that his daughter had passed away.
Although her acting career had only just begun, Hottle left a lasting impression on audiences around the world through her role as Jia in Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024). In a franchise dominated by towering Titans, earth-shattering battles and spectacular visual effects, Jia provided something equally important: heart. As the young orphan living on Skull Island alongside Dr. Ilene Andrews, played by Rebecca Hall, Jia formed a unique emotional connection with Kong through sign language. “Our hearts are with Kaylee’s family, friends, classmates, and everyone who knew and loved her during this incredibly difficult time,” the school said, while also urging people to respect the family’s privacy and avoid speculation surrounding the circumstances of the crash.
Although her career was only beginning, Kaylee Hottle had already achieved something many actors spend a lifetime striving for. Through Jia, she created a character who was warm, courageous and instantly likeable, bringing genuine emotion to one of modern cinema’s biggest blockbuster franchises. Her scenes with Kong became some of the most memorable moments across the recent MonsterVerse films, proving that sometimes the quietest performances leave the biggest impact.
