Deadstream Directors to Reboot Amityville with Radical New Horror Film

Horror fans, take note: a brand-new reimagining of the infamous Amityville house is in the works — but this isn’t the Amityville Horror you’ve seen before.
BoulderLight Pictures (Barbarian) and Divide/Conquer (Heart Eyes) are joining forces to produce an entirely fresh take on the legendary Amityville story, and they’ve tapped filmmaking duo Joseph and Vanessa Winter — the twisted minds behind Deadstream — to write and direct.
Rather than retreading the well-worn path of Jay Anson’s 1977 novel or the 1979 Amityville Horror film and its many sequels, this new feature will return to the true-life roots that sparked decades of paranormal folklore. It will centre on the notorious house at 112 Ocean Avenue, but not as part of any existing franchise — instead drawing from public domain elements of the real-world legend.
Importantly, this version will not focus on the 1974 DeFeo murders or the Lutz family haunting — the two events that have long served as the backbone for the Amityville Horror mythos. Instead, expect a bold and original perspective that revisits the house and its history with new eyes, shaped by a team known for horror that balances terror with clever genre subversion.
The Winters made waves with their feature debut Deadstream (2022), a found-footage horror comedy released on Shudder, with Joseph Winter also starring. The pair followed that up with their fan-favourite segment To Hell and Back for V/H/S/99, further cementing their status as emerging voices in horror.
Deadstream centres on a disgraced online personality who attempts to redeem himself by livestreaming an overnight stay in a notoriously haunted house. Naturally, things spiral into chaos — with supernatural forces, body horror, and social commentary all wrapped up in a fast-paced, blood-splattered ride. The film’s blend of DIY energy, smart satire, and relentless pacing earned it acclaim from critics and genre fans alike, with many praising its ability to balance comedy and genuine terror.
It’s this same unique tone that has likely made the Winters such appealing candidates for the upcoming Amityville project — capable of injecting fresh life into even the most familiar horror territory.
For those who missed it on Shudder or simply want to own it, there’s more good news: Deadstream will be receiving a Blu-ray release from Arrow Video later this summer. Known for their beautifully packaged editions and in-depth special features, Arrow’s treatment will include bonus materials, newly commissioned artwork, and a stack of behind-the-scenes extras, making it a must-own for collectors and horror aficionados.
With their past work gaining a second life on physical media, and their next project fast-tracked into production, Joseph and Vanessa Winter are fast becoming a creative force to watch in modern horror.

With this new Amityville project, they’re poised to take on one of horror’s most recognisable settings — and twist it into something unexpected.
Backing them are producers Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz for BoulderLight, alongside Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath for Divide/Conquer. According to reports, the film is being fast-tracked, with production eyed for a late 2025 start.
While details on plot and casting are still under wraps, the creative talent involved suggests this won’t be just another haunted house flick — but a fresh, meta-laced, possibly chaotic descent into Amityville’s mythic madness.
Amityville Legacy
The Amityville franchise began with The Amityville Horror (1979), based on the supposedly true story of the Lutz family and the infamous 112 Ocean Avenue house. It spawned numerous sequels and spin-offs — including Amityville II: The Possession, Amityville 3-D, and a 2005 remake starring Ryan Reynolds. Over time, the series drifted into bizarre territory, with dozens of unofficial entries like Amityville in Space and Amityville: The Dollhouse. With the core story now in the public domain, Amityville has become less a franchise and more a creative free-for-all — which makes a fresh, grounded take all the more promising.
Stay tuned — this house may still have more screams left in its walls.
