IT: Welcome To Derry Gets Great New Poster

Stephen King’s infamous town of Derry, Maine, is set to return to screens in It: Welcome to Derry, a chilling new prequel series that expands on the universe established in the two-part Warner Bros. adaptations of It. Originally slated exclusively for HBO Max, the show will now also air on HBO, signaling the network’s confidence in the potential of this dark and expansive story. Fans can expect the show to premiere in October 2025, with production already well underway in Port Hope, Ontario, the same filming location used for previous It films.
The new series will serve as a deep dive into the sinister history of Derry, exploring the roots of the evil that has plagued the town for generations—long before the Losers’ Club confronted the demonic Pennywise. As anticipation builds, Warner Bros. has released an official teaser poster, hinting at the eerie atmosphere to come.
Fans attending San Diego Comic-Con are in for a treat. An official panel is scheduled for July 26 at 9:15pm, taking place in Room 6DE of the San Diego Convention Center. Filmmaking siblings Andy and Barbara Muschietti, who helmed the It films, will present exclusive footage from the upcoming series. Attendees will also be treated to free ice cream, a chilling nod to Derry’s deceptive calm. Outside the convention, Pennywise-themed pedicabs will offer free rides, while brand ambassadors distribute sweets across the Gaslamp Quarter, Harbor areas, and convention center itself on July 25 and 26—turning the entire city into a playground of horror.
Brad Caleb Kane (Tokyo Vice) and Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman, It: Chapter Two) serve as the showrunners of the series. Notably, Kane was also recently announced as showrunner for Peacock’s upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake. The project is being shepherded by the Muschiettis under their Double Dream production banner, with Fuchs, Kane, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee, and Dan Lin also attached as executive producers. The series is a joint production between HBO Max and Warner Bros. Television.
The series will span nine episodes, with Andy Muschietti directing four of them. Fuchs penned the first episode, drawing from a story developed in collaboration with Andy and Barbara Muschietti. The team has been clear that the series is not just an extension of the It films—it’s a broader exploration of the novel’s mythology and of evil’s cyclical nature in Derry.
Stephen King himself has given the project his stamp of approval, stating:
“I’m excited that the story of Derry, Maine’s most haunted city, is continuing, and I’m glad Andy Muschietti is going to be overseeing the frightening festivities, along with a brain trust including his talented sister, Barbara. Red balloons all around!”
The Muschiettis echoed King’s enthusiasm:
“As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King’s It until the thick paperback fell to pieces. It is an epic story that contains multitudes, far beyond what we could explore in our It movies. We can’t wait to share the depths of Steve’s novel, in all its heart, humor, humanity, and horror.”
