Insidious 6 Wraps Filming, Preparing to Drag Us Back Into The Further in 2026
The Lambert family may finally get some rest, but horror fans certainly will not. Insidious 6 has officially wrapped filming, and audiences can prepare for another trip into The Further when the film hits cinemas on August 21, 2026.
Director Jacob Chase, who previously terrified audiences with the underrated 2020 supernatural chiller Come Play, has been steering this latest entry. Chase also co wrote the script with David Leslie Johnson McGoldrick, whose horror credentials include The Conjuring 2 and Aquaman. The result promises to continue the eerie legacy that began all the way back in 2010 with Insidious.

Producing the film is an all star horror team made up of Jason Blum, James Wan, Leigh Whannell, and Oren Peli, all of whom have been central figures in turning Blumhouse’s brand of low budget, high quality scares into a modern empire. Johnson McGoldrick also serves as an executive producer alongside Ryan Turek, Steven Schneider, and Brian Kavanaugh Jones, making this a stacked creative lineup that knows exactly how to make your walls creak in the middle of the night.
The cast this time includes Amelia Eve (The Haunting of Bly Manor), Brandon Perea (Nope), Maisie Richardson Sellers (The Originals), Sam Spruell (Legend), Island Austin (I Can Only Imagine 2), Laura Gordon (Late Night with the Devil), and series veteran Lin Shaye, who continues to be the beating supernatural heart of the franchise. Plot details remain under wraps, which is probably for the best — the Insidious films tend to be much more fun when you don’t know which corner The Further is going to lunge from next.
Production wrapped recently, with Chase confirming the news through social media, expressing his gratitude for the cast and crew who endured yet another nightmare shoot involving doors that open themselves and sets that require enough fog to block out a solar eclipse. Fans can expect a polished, spine tingling chapter that continues the long running story of haunted families, ghostly realms, and that one musical cue that guarantees goosebumps every time it plays.
This latest sequel follows Insidious: The Red Door, which released in 2023 and marked the directorial debut of Patrick Wilson, who also returned to his role as Josh Lambert. That entry served as both a sequel and something of a finale to the Lambert family’s arc, making it the perfect point for Insidious 6 to explore new corners of The Further, or perhaps new unfortunate souls entirely.
The Insidious universe, much like a demonic entity, refuses to stay quiet. Alongside this mainline sequel, there has been talk of a separate spin off film titled Thread: An Insidious Tale. Originally announced in 2022, the project was described as a mix between Back to the Future and Aliens — which, if nothing else, sounds like the most unholy crossover pitch ever spoken aloud. Thread was set to star Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani as parents who use a mysterious ritual to travel back in time to save their daughter, with disastrous results. The film was planned to be written and directed by Jeremy Slater, the creator of The Exorcist television series and head writer for Marvel’s Moon Knight.

Despite the buzz, Thread has yet to move into production. Still, franchise architect James Wan has hinted that it could one day expand the Insidious mythology even further, suggesting that The Further itself contains endless opportunities for standalone stories. Considering how The Conjuring series has successfully built an entire cinematic universe from cursed dolls and haunted paintings, there is no doubt that Insidious could follow a similar path if all goes well.
The Insidious films have collectively earned over half a billion dollars worldwide, proving that audiences are still eager to be scared senseless by things lurking in the dark. From the first film’s eerie red faced demon to The Red Door’s multigenerational haunting, this series has consistently balanced family drama with supernatural dread, often reminding us that therapy might be less terrifying than astral projection.
With Insidious 6, Jacob Chase is stepping into some very large, very haunted shoes. If his debut film Come Play is any indication, we can expect atmosphere, empathy, and at least a few moments that make you question whether that shadow in the corner just moved.
So, polish up your lanterns, say your prayers, and maybe consider investing in a nightlight. The Further is open for business once again, and it is hungrier than ever.
