New Details Emerge on Halloween: The Video Game Story Mode Ahead of 2026 Release
With less than a year to go before the release of Halloween: The Video Game, IllFonic and Gun Interactive have lifted the mask on what players can expect from the title’s single player story mode. As a Halloween treat, the developers have revealed fresh details about how this chilling adaptation of John Carpenter’s classic will let fans step directly into the world of Michael Myers.
Both studios have built strong reputations for their multiplayer experiences, with IllFonic known for Friday the 13th: The Game and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, and Gun Interactive celebrated for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Now they are joining forces to take the franchise in a bold new direction. Halloween will feature a fully developed story campaign that promises a cinematic, character driven experience alongside its expected multiplayer component.

The story begins with Michael Myers escaping from Smith’s Grove Sanitarium, giving players a chance to witness the moments that led up to what the original film called “the night he came home.” The campaign will explore how the silent killer broke free, what happened at Phelps Garage, and other unseen events that shaped the mythology of the series.
IllFonic confirmed that the single player chapters will combine familiar film moments with entirely new material. Players will meet a new cast of Haddonfield residents, many of whom will also appear as playable survivors in the game’s multiplayer mode. The developers promise a “compelling and authentic” Halloween experience that captures the tension and pacing of Carpenter’s original while allowing players to make choices that influence the story.
Replayability is a key focus. The single player campaign will feature a sandbox approach with several difficulty options, hidden collectibles, optional objectives, and branching storylines. The ending players receive will depend on the decisions made during their journey, encouraging multiple playthroughs to uncover all possibilities.

According to the developers, the story mode is designed to match “the meticulous cadence of the original film while empowering players to help shape the narrative.” This means it will not just retell the familiar story but expand on it, exploring what drives Michael Myers and the world around him from new perspectives.
Fans can expect the same level of detail and atmosphere that IllFonic and Gun have become known for. Every creaking floorboard, flickering light, and eerie piano note has been crafted to bring Carpenter’s vision to life. From the quiet streets of Haddonfield to the oppressive halls of Smith’s Grove, the game aims to make players feel like they are living inside the Halloween universe.

Halloween: The Video Game was announced earlier this year as a collaboration between the two studios, both emphasizing their shared goal of creating a faithful, lore accurate experience. Fans of tense, survival focused horror will still find the cat and mouse gameplay familiar from Friday the 13th and Texas Chain Saw, but the addition of a full single player campaign marks a major evolution for both teams.
The game is set to launch on September 8, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. With its mix of cinematic storytelling, exploration, and slasher suspense, Halloween: The Video Game could be the definitive virtual take on one of horror’s most enduring icons.
