Hold the Fort Trailer Unleashes HOA Hell Ahead of June Release
Buying your first home is supposed to be exciting. A nice neighbourhood, friendly neighbours and a fresh start. Unfortunately for the unfortunate heroes of Hold the Fort, their homeowners association comes with a rather unusual problem: an army of monsters from hell.
Sunrise Films has released a brand new trailer for writer-director William Bagley’s horror-comedy, giving audiences a taste of the supernatural chaos that arrives on digital platforms on June 23.
Watch the trailer below.
At first glance, Hold the Fort looks like the kind of horror-comedy that knows exactly what it wants to be. Equal parts creature feature, action movie and suburban satire, the film takes the everyday nightmare of dealing with an overbearing homeowners association and turns it into a literal battle for survival.
The story follows Lucas and Jenny, a young couple who believe they have finally achieved the dream of home ownership. Their excitement quickly evaporates when they discover that their new neighbourhood has a bizarre secret.
As it turns out, residents are expected to participate in a deadly ritual that sees the community defend itself against invading monsters during a supernatural event linked to the equinox. What begins as an awkward neighbourhood gathering soon erupts into an all-out war against creatures from hell.
The newly released trailer wastes no time getting to the carnage. Between chainsaws, firearms, exploding monsters and increasingly frantic residents, Hold the Fort appears to embrace practical effects, over-the-top action and plenty of humour. It feels very much in the tradition of crowd-pleasing horror-comedies that balance laughs with buckets of blood.
Leading the cast is Chris Mayers, who horror fans may recognise from Adult Swim Yule Log, the 2022 horror-comedy that surprised audiences by transforming what appeared to be a simple looping fireplace video into something considerably stranger and more sinister.

Alongside him is Haley Leary, whose credits include an appearance in The Walking Dead, one of television’s most successful horror franchises. The long-running zombie drama helped launch and elevate countless genre performers over the years, and Leary’s involvement adds another familiar horror connection to the cast.
The ensemble is rounded out by Levi Burdick and Julian Smith, with Smith also serving as one of the film’s producers.
Behind the camera, Hold the Fort comes from filmmaker William Bagley, who not only directs but also wrote the screenplay. Bagley also produces alongside Smith, Matt Dodd, Luke Williams and Tim Reis.
Speaking about the project ahead of its release, Bagley explained his intentions for the film:
“My goal with this film was to make a hilarious, fast-paced thrill ride while also telling a great story with heart. Hopefully, through all the blood, laughs, fights, and gags, you leave the film feeling inspired to tackle whatever life throws at you.”
Judging by the trailer, he may well have achieved exactly that.

One of the biggest strengths on display is the film’s willingness to fully embrace its ridiculous premise. Rather than playing things straight, Hold the Fort appears to lean heavily into the absurdity of suburban residents battling supernatural forces while still trying to maintain a sense of community spirit.
It is a concept that feels surprisingly timely. Rising house prices, difficult neighbours and the endless responsibilities of home ownership have become familiar frustrations for many adults. Hold the Fort simply asks an important question nobody else has dared to tackle:
What if your HOA meetings involved demons?
The film has already built up a solid reputation on the festival circuit. Hold the Fort premiered at the prestigious Fantasia International Film Festival last year, one of the world’s leading showcases for genre cinema. The movie subsequently played at FrightFest London, Toronto After Dark, and Beyond Fest, earning further attention from horror audiences.
Those festivals have become important launchpads for independent horror over the years, helping films find wider audiences before their eventual release. With its combination of creature mayhem, comedy, action and suburban madness, Hold the Fort looks poised to continue that tradition.

The trailer promises monsters, gore, practical effects and enough neighbourhood drama to make your local residents’ Facebook group seem perfectly normal by comparison. For horror fans looking for something fun, energetic and unapologetically silly this summer, Hold the Fort may be worth adding to the watchlist.
Just remember: before buying a new house, always read the HOA rules. Especially the part about defending reality from demonic invasion.
Hold the Fort arrives on digital platforms on June 23.
