Heart Eyes 2 Slashes Into 2028 Release Date
Love is in the air… and so is the sound of something sharp heading straight for it. The follow-up to 2025’s romcom-meets-slasher hit Heart Eyes is officially on the way, with Heart Eyes 2 set to arrive in cinemas on February 11, 2028, courtesy of Paramount.
Yes, just in time for Valentine’s Day again, because nothing says romance like candles, roses, and the looming threat of being hunted by a masked killer with very strong opinions about couples.
According to Variety, details about the sequel are still being kept tightly under wraps. There is currently no confirmation on which cast members will return, though one key figure is definitely back. Director Josh Ruben will once again take the helm, ensuring the sequel retains the same blend of horror, comedy, and relationship chaos that made the original stand out.
Ruben will also co-write the screenplay alongside Darcy Fowler, working from a story by Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy. Landon, who has become a familiar name in genre circles thanks to projects like Happy Death Day, will also produce. In other words, the same creative minds who turned Valentine’s Day into a blood-soaked date night are back for round two.

A Killer Date Night Returns
The original Heart Eyes was released on February 7, 2025, and carved out a surprisingly successful niche by mixing romantic comedy tropes with full-blown slasher carnage. Directed by Josh Ruben and written by Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy, the film starred Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding as coworkers who are mistakenly identified as a couple by a serial killer known as the Heart Eyes Killer.
That misunderstanding turns out to be a bit of a problem, mainly because the Heart Eyes Killer has a habit of murdering couples every Valentine’s Day in a different city. It is a niche hobby, but he commits to it.
The film also featured Gigi Zumbado, Michaela Watkins, Devon Sawa, and Jordana Brewster, rounding out a cast that balanced humour with genuine tension. Against a budget of $18 million, Heart Eyes went on to gross around $33 million worldwide and received generally positive reviews, with many praising its ability to juggle genres without collapsing under the weight of its own gimmick.
What set Heart Eyes apart from other slashers was its tone. It was not just about creative kills, though it certainly had those. It leaned heavily into the chemistry between its leads, playing like a romantic comedy that just happened to involve a masked psychopath trying to ruin the evening. It walked a fine line between satire and sincerity, and somehow made both work.

Where Could Heart Eyes 2 Go?
While plot details for Heart Eyes 2 are currently unknown, the ending of the first film leaves plenty of room for continuation. Without diving too deeply into spoiler territory, let’s just say the original wrapped things up in a way that felt complete… but not entirely closed. This is horror, after all. If something can come back, it probably will.
The concept itself also lends naturally to expansion. A killer targeting couples on Valentine’s Day is a premise that can easily be revisited, whether through copycats, new interpretations, or entirely different angles on the same twisted tradition. Horror franchises thrive on this kind of flexibility, and Heart Eyes has a built-in gimmick that can evolve without feeling repetitive.
There is also the question of tone. The first film balanced romance and horror with surprising confidence, so the sequel will likely aim to push that dynamic further. More tension, more absurdity, and, ideally, even more inventive ways to make a romantic setting feel like the worst possible place to be.

Love Hurts… Again
What makes the return of Heart Eyes particularly interesting is how it fits into the modern horror landscape. In recent years, there has been a resurgence of slashers that blend traditional elements with new twists, whether through humour, social commentary, or genre mashups. Heart Eyes sits comfortably in that space, offering something familiar but with enough personality to stand out.
Bringing it back for a sequel, especially with the same creative team, suggests confidence that this is more than a one-off idea. It is a concept with legs. Possibly running at you. Possibly holding a weapon.
For now, details remain scarce, but the release date is locked in. February 11, 2028. Cancel your dinner reservations, avoid anyone who calls you “the perfect couple,” and maybe do not accept any last-minute invitations to secluded locations.
Because if Heart Eyes taught us anything, it is this.
Valentine’s Day is not safe.
