Paul Rudd and Jack Black Face Off Against a Giant Snake in First Anaconda Trailer
The jungle’s deadliest serpent is slithering back onto the big screen this Christmas, and this time it is bringing its sense of humour along for the ride. The first official trailer has been released for the upcoming Anaconda reboot, a bold reimagining of the cult 1997 creature feature that fuses sharp comedy with genuine horror.
Led by comedy icons Paul Rudd and Jack Black, the new film takes a gleefully meta approach. Instead of simply rebooting the original plot, it follows two best friends, Doug (Rudd) and Griff (Black), who are attempting to make their own low-budget remake of their favourite monster movie. What begins as a tongue-in-cheek passion project quickly spirals into chaos when a real giant anaconda appears on set, turning their dream film shoot into a desperate fight for survival.

A Comic Spin on a Classic Creature Feature
Speaking to People, Jack Black described the upcoming Anaconda as “an exciting mix of comedy and horror”, promising audiences “the thrill ride of the season”. He added that it was “a lot funnier than the original” while still delivering the scares that made the 1997 version infamous. “It is a horror film for real,” Black noted, “but it has got some clowning for sure.”
Director Tom Gormican, best known for the razor-sharp satire The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, brings his flair for self-aware humour and energetic set pieces to the new reboot. He also wrote the script, reportedly packing it with both affectionate nods to the original film and wild new twists.
Joining Rudd and Black are an eclectic supporting cast including Thandiwe Newton, Steve Zahn, Selton Mello, Ione Skye and Daniela Melchior.

Revisiting the Original Jungle Terror
The first Anaconda, directed by Luis Llosa, slithered into cinemas back in 1997 and became an unlikely cult hit. Its cast was a who’s who of rising stars and screen legends, with Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Owen Wilson and Danny Trejo joining forces for the tale of a film crew forced by a deranged hunter to help him capture a monstrous snake.
Although critics were not impressed at the time, audiences could not resist the mix of jungle action, eccentric performances and gloriously over-the-top creature effects. The film spawned a string of sequels, including Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid (2004), Anaconda 3: Offspring (2008) and Anacondas: Trail of Blood (2009). In 2015, the series even collided with another creature franchise in the crossover film Lake Placid vs. Anaconda.
Now, nearly three decades later, the new Anaconda aims to breathe fresh life into the franchise by blending affectionate parody with full-blooded thrills.
Comedy Meets Carnage This Christmas
The trailer hints at the film’s balancing act between laughs and terror, showing Doug and Griff’s bumbling antics on set before quickly escalating into sheer panic as the real anaconda starts hunting them one by one. This blend of self-referential comedy and survival horror could make the new Anaconda stand out from other reboots.
Black’s knack for physical comedy and Rudd’s everyman charm look set to provide the heart of the film, while Gormican’s slick direction promises spectacular set pieces and jaw-dropping creature effects. It is a gamble, but it could revitalise the franchise for a whole new generation of viewers.
With a release set for 25 December 2025, Anaconda will arrive just in time to give holiday audiences something far more dangerous than chestnuts roasting on an open fire.
