The Mannequin – A Stylish New Possession Horror Coming This Halloween
The world of horror welcomes a fresh nightmare this October as director John Berardo unveils his latest feature, The Mannequin. Arriving on Digital platforms on 14 October 2025, the film promises to deliver a tense and visually striking exploration of possession horror, and its eerie first trailer has just dropped courtesy of Jackrabbit Media.
Berardo, who made his mark on the horror scene with the 2020 campus-set slasher Initiation, is looking to expand his creative range with The Mannequin. While Initiation combined social media culture with classic slasher tropes, his newest project leans deeper into the supernatural, wrapping psychological unease in a fashion-forward aesthetic. Berardo has long been vocal about his desire to merge genre thrills with commentary on youth culture and ambition, and The Mannequin appears to continue that mission in chilling form.
A Fashionable Nightmare

Set against the industrial decay of downtown Los Angeles, The Mannequin centres on Liana Rojas (played by Isabella Gomez), a young stylist’s assistant struggling with creative stagnation. When she ventures into the same historic factory building where her fashion designer sister mysteriously died, Liana uncovers a dark secret lurking in the building’s glamorous past.
Half a century ago, a serial killer stalked aspiring actors there, posing as a headshot photographer before brutally murdering and dismembering his victims. Now, his spirit remains — tethered to the mannequins and props he once used — and has begun to haunt anyone who dares enter. As the malevolent ghost begins to possess its victims, Liana and her friends must uncover the truth behind the curse before they, too, become lifeless works of art.
The supporting cast includes Krystle Martin (The Mean One), Lindsay LaVanchy (Predator: Killer of Killers), Jack Sochet (Smile), and Maxwell Hamilton (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore), forming a strong ensemble to match the film’s intense and stylish tone.
Berardo’s Horror Legacy
Berardo’s previous film Initiation stood out for its blend of traditional slasher suspense and commentary on campus culture and online harassment, earning him praise as a fresh voice in genre filmmaking. It featured dynamic camerawork, vibrant production design, and socially relevant themes that gave a familiar setup a modern bite. With The Mannequin, Berardo is pushing further into psychological territory, weaving a narrative where trauma, ambition, and supernatural vengeance collide.
While Initiation drew on the kinetic energy of 90s teen slashers like Scream, The Mannequin looks poised to echo the chilling atmosphere of supernatural thrillers such as The Ring and Lights Out, with the added twist of the high-fashion world as a haunting backdrop.
Coming This Halloween

With its retro-industrial setting, stylish visuals, and sinister ghost story, The Mannequin could be a standout horror title this spooky season. Berardo’s knack for creating tension mixed with sleek design makes this one to watch as October approaches. If you are a fan of eerie possession stories and psychological terror with a stylish edge, mark your calendar for 14 October 2025 when The Mannequin struts onto Digital platforms worldwide.
