Fright Night (1985) – The Vampire You Invite In

Directed by Tom Holland, Fright Night blends classic vampire mythos with 1980s suburban paranoia. Jerry Dandrige moves into a sleepy neighborhood and is soon suspected by teenager Charley Brewster of being… a vampire.
Charley’s right.
Jerry is:
- Suave, charming, and seductive
- Fearless when confronted, hiding behind charisma and skepticism
- Ruthless beneath the surface, feeding on young women and anyone who gets too close
He kills Charley’s classmate, seduces and turns his girlfriend Amy, and mocks authority with supernatural confidence. His home is a gothic den of secrets, protected by his familiar Billy Cole.
Chris Sarandon’s portrayal is effortlessly cool, switching between:
- A laid-back neighbor with a polite smile
- A demonic predator with elongated claws, bat wings, and a distorted mouth of fangs
The finale sees Charley and washed-up TV vampire hunter Peter Vincent teaming up to battle Jerry in his mansion, filled with traps, transformations, and bloody standoffs. Jerry meets a fiery end at sunrise, but not before burning himself into horror legend.
Fright Night (2011) – The Predator in Plain Sight

The remake, directed by Craig Gillespie, updates Jerry for a post-Twilight world. Played by Colin Farrell, this Jerry is darker, more animalistic, and far more dangerous. He’s not just feeding on women — he’s building a suburban vampire nest beneath his house.
This version:
- Lives in Las Vegas suburbs, exploiting the night shift culture
- Rips through drywall with his hands, climbs walls, and feeds with primal intensity
- Maintains charm, but is quicker to drop the mask
- Shows no hesitation in killing — his rage is simmering just under the surface
- Turns Charley’s mother, stalks his friends, and burns through the town like a plague
Farrell’s performance oozes danger — a walking contradiction of civility and savagery. His Jerry is a monster that can blend in, which may be more terrifying than the Nosferatu-style vampires of old.

League Placement
Jerry Dandrige belongs in the Second Class Tier — elegant, intelligent, and utterly lethal beneath the charm. He doesn’t need to chase you. You’ll probably invite him in before you realize what he is. By then… it’s already too late.
