Screamboat 2 Announced as the Killer Mouse Sets Sail Again for More Mayhem
The world’s most homicidal mouse is gearing up for another voyage. After slicing his way through the high seas earlier this year, Steamboat Willie is coming back for seconds in Screamboat 2. Director Steven LaMorte, who helmed the first film, has officially confirmed that the sequel is in development and promises even more miniature murder and maritime mayhem.
LaMorte said in a statement, “I’m thrilled to announce the sequel to our bloody horror comedy. We had so much fun bringing these iconic characters to life with a bloody twist, and I look forward to returning to the world of Screamboat to create even more miniature murder and mayhem.” You could almost hear the sound of the world’s legal departments collectively groaning as he spoke.

The news follows Screamboat’s win for Best Public Domain Resurrection at the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, where LaMorte teased that a sequel was already being mapped out. The film, released not long after Mickey Mouse’s earliest incarnation entered the public domain in 2024, turned the beloved cartoon classic into a blood-slicked comedy of chaos. This new chapter, according to the press release, will pick up right where the first film’s wild cliffhanger left off. And yes, that means Minnie is coming aboard.
The filmmakers confirmed that Screamboat 2 will “expand on the shocking cliffhanger ending of the first film, which teased the arrival of another murderous public domain icon, Minnie.” The idea of a deranged Disney couple painting the deck red feels like a match made in hell, and fans are already gleefully speculating about what kind of twisted romantic subplot the sequel might serve up. A love story with decapitations? A couples’ therapy session with chainsaws? Anything seems possible now.
While most of the cast is expected to return, official names have yet to be announced. The sequel will set sail in 2026, though based on the tone of the first film, this voyage is not likely to end with a sunset and a love song.

The original Screamboat was produced by Amy Schumacher, Martine Melloul, Steven Della Salla, and Michael Leavy, with creature effects from Christian Beckman’s Quantum Creation FX and designs by Christian Cordella. The film made waves for its inventive blend of slapstick gore and public domain cheekiness, quickly becoming a viral favorite among horror fans who like their satire served with splatter.
This sequel announcement also continues a trend that has taken hold since the public domain gates opened. From Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey to Minnie’s Midnight Massacre, horror creators have been gleefully tearing apart the icons of childhood and stitching them back together into cinematic nightmares. With Screamboat 2, LaMorte seems determined to double down on the absurdity, leaning even harder into the concept that made the first film such a bloody delight.

So get ready to climb aboard once again. The seas are red, the smiles are painted on, and this time, the mouse might not be sailing solo. Love is in the air, and by love, we mean arterial spray.
